The City of San Jacinto Police Department has the following service divisions.

Patrol Unit

The police department provides uniformed patrol seven days per week, 24 hours a day. Officers are responsible for the initial report and investigation of crimes within the city limits.

Traffic Unit

The Traffic Unit is comprised of two motor enforcement officers, one accident investigation officer and a sergeant; they specialize in collision reconstruction and traffic enforcement. These officers are responsible for enforcing all state and local traffic laws as well as the investigation of all injury and non-injury traffic collisions and property damage collisions. In addition, officers are available to provide public information on safety awareness to include school zone safety, and other special events.

The Traffic Unit conducts a variety of focused traffic enforcement operations which are funded in part by grants from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety. The Traffic Unit’s goals include the reduction of traffic accidents and injuries, and to facilitate the safe and expeditious flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in San Jacinto. In order to accomplish these goals, the Traffic Unit strictly enforces traffic violations which tend to cause traffic collisions and those which are likely to increase the severity of collisions when they do occur. The Traffic Unit strives to educate the public on the tragic costs of unsafe driving. 

The San Jacinto Police Department was recently awarded a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety via the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC). These grant funds will be used to reduce the incidence of alcohol related crimes and injuries in San Jacinto. This will be accomplished by inspecting San Jacinto businesses licensed to sell alcohol, conducting minor decoy operations, and shoulder tap programs. 

K-9 Team

The City of San Jacinto Police Department employs one K-9 team which are trained in obedience, agility, evidence searches, building searches, and apprehension work. The greatest value of the K-9 team lies in the dog’s keen sense of sight, smell, and hearing which aid in the search of vehicles, buildings and open areas for drugs, persons and items of evidence while reducing the risk of injury to other officers. The K-9 team can be seen patrolling throughout the City and at various special events, serving as both a deterrent to crime and as an ambassador for the Department. 

School Resource Officer Program (SRO)

SROs are sworn law enforcement officers responsible for safety and crime prevention in schools. Covering a wide spectrum of juvenile related services, a SRO works closely with school administrators in an effort to create a safer environment. The responsibilities of SROs are similar to regular police officers in that they have the ability to make arrests, respond to calls for service, and document incidents that occur within their jurisdiction.

While an SRO's primary responsibility is law enforcement, whenever possible, prevention through education is the primary focus of the program and is dedicated to keeping our students safe through education, counseling and mentoring.

Crime Prevention Unit

The San Jacinto Police Department has a Community Services Officer who is assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit. The Crime Prevention Unit endeavors to work together with managers of apartment complexes, neighborhood residents and mobile home park associations in order to decrease calls for service, and improve quality of life issues, thereby making the City of San Jacinto a safer and better place to live.

Business Office

The police department business office is instrumental in developing and maintaining a positive relationship between the community and the police department. Personnel assist residents in obtaining information regarding specific reported crimes or traffic incidents; direct them to available resources within the department, or appropriate city or government agencies.
