Effective January 1 , 2022:
Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383), California's Landmark Legislation to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants, goes into effect January 1, 2022. This Law was signed by Governor Brown in September 2016. SB 1383 establishes methane emissions reduction targets in a statewide effort to mitigate climate change. Methane gas is created in landfills when organic
waste (food/green waste) naturally decompose. In order to reduce methane emissions at local landfills, all local jurisdictions are required to implement SB1383 regulations and provide both recycling and organics services to all residents and businesses.
